Obtaining Funds for the implementation of the Rooftop Solar Power Generation Project by installing solar power systems on roof tops

- The target of the Government is to generate 200 MW of electricity by the end of the year 2020 through Solar Power generation while plans have been made to enhance the power generation up to 1000 MW by the year 2025. In order to achieve this target, concessionary loans will be provided to install Rooftop Solar Power Generation Systems under the 'Solar Power Generation Project'. The Asian Development Bank has consented to assist this programme by providing concessionary loan assistance for developing solar rooftop market infrastructure, to arrange sub‑projects to obtain loans and to increase the capacity and awareness of commercial and domestic consumers including the stakeholders. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to conduct negotiations in this regard and to enter into the relevant Agreements, was approved by the Cabinet.
