Rescheduling of the Provincial Councils Elections

- The Cabinet granted approval on 25‑07‑2017 to make amendments to the provisions in the Constitution and the relevant provisions in the Provincial Councils Elections Act, No.2 of 1988, enabling the elections for all Provincial Councils to be held on the same date. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to publish the Draft twentieth Amendment to the Constitution and the Provincial Councils Elections (Amendment) Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman and subsequently present the Bill in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
