Expediting the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction work in the areas damaged by Flood and Landslide

- Due to the floods and landslides that occurred in May this year, a number of areas including the districts of Matara, Galle, Kalutara, Ratnapura and Hambantota were severely affected. In order to completely bring back the daily lives of the people there to normalcy, the reconstruction work and the supply of other amenities will have to be carried out expeditiously.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to autherize the District Secretaries to award the contracts relevant to the reconstruction work which should be done expeditiously, not exceeding Rs.50 million based on the engineers' estimates and subject to the approval of the Procurement Committees, to the contractors registered in the Construction Industry Development Authority(CIDA), and the relief activities which should be made on medium term and long term to be implemented through the relevant Ministries and Provincial Councils, was approved by the Cabinet.
