Establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Higher Education

- It is observed that there is a need for a professional work force competent with skills in high management and equipped with knowledge on modern technology for Sri Lanka to remain competitive in the global market. Therefore, it has been proposed to set up an International Level University primarily comprising of an Engineering School and a Business School as a Public‑Private Partnership. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to establish a not for profit Company Limited by guarantee to solicit the top Global Universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of California Berkeley and for obtaining the Private Sector investment for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
