Appointment of a Board of Management for the Maintenance of the Services of the Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital, Malabe
- In accordance with the approval granted by the Cabinet, necessary steps have been taken to vest Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital with the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine with effect from 2017‑08‑01. This State of the Art hospital consisting of modern high tech facilities is expected to be maintained as a teaching hospital which provides a high qualitative patient care service and as such, it has to be established similar to the manner adopted in establishing the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, by an Act of Parliament.

Accordingly, taking into consideration the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to appoint a Board of Management operative from 2017‑08‑01 comprising of experts who represent the medical, administrative, managerial and civil society under the chairmanship of Dr. U.A. Ajith Mendis, the former Director General of Health Services for the administration and management of the services of the hospital until the hospital is established by an Act of Parliament, and to provide a sum of Rs.200 million per month for the operational cost of the hospital by managing the funds allocated to the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine for the year 2017, was approved by the Cabinet.
