National Guidelines for Child Day Care Centres in Sri Lanka
- With the increase in the employment of women, the demand for child day care centres too has increased. Presently, day care centres are operated by several government and private institutions and therefore, the need has arisen to set National Standards for the proper regulation with regard to the functioning of such Centres.

Accordingly, the 'National Guidelines for Child Day Care Centres in Sri Lanka' have been formulated having obtained the comments and views of all relevant stakeholders and experts. The proposed guidelines introduces provision for the registration process of the Child Day Care Centres, standards to be maintained and the monitoring methodology of the said mechanism. The said guidelines are proposed to be implemented under the Provincial Department of Probation and Child Care. Parallel to the proposed Guidelines, a child care course has also been introduced for the National Vocational Qualification Level 4.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Mrs.) Chandrani Bandara, the Minister of Women and Child Affairs for approval of the 'National Guidelines for Child Day Care Centres in Sri Lanka', and to implement the said guidelines subject to a proper Action Plan, under the supervision of the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, was approved by the Cabinet.
