Controlling of undesirable conditions prevailing in the jungles due to the severe drought

- The severe drought conditions prevailing in the Northern, Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces have resulted in inimical situations like forest fires, in jungles adjacent to such areas, dying of wild animals, moving of wild animals into villages in search of Water. In order to successfully control the situation the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Department of Forest Conservation need to get the support of the other public institutions.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife to implement the proposed activities for controlling the adverse effects caused by the drought in areas adjacent to the forests through the Divisional and District Committees comprising of the officers relevant to the task, was approved by the cabinet.
