Transferring of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage land to the Department of National Zoological Gardens
- The 'Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage' managed by the Department of National Zoological Gardens is a centre for the conservation and breeding of Asian elephants and it has been successful in focusing the attention of many tourists. With the objective of further upgrading the Orphanage, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, for transferring the land in extent of 26 Acres and 5.8 Perches owned by the Land Reform Commission where the Elephant Orphanage is situated, to the Department of National Zoological Gardens permanently, was approved by the Cabinet.
