Providing of relief to the People affected by Floods and Landslides Living in the plantation areas
- Due to the floods and landslides that occurred in the month of May in 2017, in the Districts of Galle, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Hatton, approximately 872 families living in the plantation areas were severely affected and most of their properties were destroyed. The people so affected are now residing in temporary sheds and common shelters and as such, measures are needed to be taken to relocate and their infrastructure facilities renovated.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. U. Palani Digambaram, the Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development, to identify suitable land to construct new houses for the re-location of persons so affected at a cost of Rs.500 million, to provide roofing sheets for the houses that were damaged, to construct toilets in affected plantation areas, to implement water supply projects, to provide with water tanks, and to upgrade the Child Development Centres damaged due to the disaster, was approved by the Cabinet.
