Vesting of land for the Salawa Town Development Project

- Due to the explosion of the Armoury at the Salawa Army Camp premises at Kosgama, last year, damages were caused to a number of public and private properties. In accordance with the recommendations of the special Committee appointed to make recommendations for the re‑development of the township and the buildings damaged by the explosion, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to vest a land in extent of 04 Acres, 02 Roods, 24.40 Perches with the Urban Development Authority as a free grant, from the premises of the Salawa Army Camp, with the concurrence of the Sri Lanka Army, for the expeditious commencement of the following projects, was approved by the Cabinet.

* Widening of the main road to form four lanes
* Allocation of land for the banks
* Construction of the Community Centre
* Construction of the Super Market
* Construction of 35 Nos. of shops
* Construction of a Children's Park and a Play Ground
* Construction of food courts
