Payment of compensation to the affected persons due to the acquisition of their lands for the Moragahakanda Project, which had been provided to them in lieu of their lands inundated by Wemedilla Reservoir

- The people who were deprived of their lands at the acquisition of lands for the implementation of the Wemedilla Reservoir project covering the Divisional Secretary's Divisions of Naula, Galewela and Dambulla in the Matale District were provided with lands from the Laggala - Pallegama Divisional Secretary's Division under the Kandepitawala reservoir scheme in the year 2008. However, action has been taken to acquire the lands so provided once again for the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga development project, and as such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, for the payment of cash as compensation for 53 persons who were so deprived of their lands in lieu of alternative lands, was approved by the Cabinet.
