Modernization of School Classrooms for creating a qualitative learning environment
- In line with the socio economic development which had taken place during the past six decades, the field of education too has undergone rapid modernization and along with it several positive changes have been brought about in development of new curricular, updating practical tests and teaching learning methodologies and enhancing skills through group activities. In order to facilitate such changes, steps have been taken to establish classrooms with modern facilities, laboratories, computer centres and language labs in schools. Concurrent to this, to make it more convenient for the students seated in one place for long hours being engaged in their educational activities, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education to provide furniture made out of polymer materials (without PVC) to class rooms in all the schools during the four (04) year period, commencing from the year 2017, replacing the wood and iron mixed desk and chairs, was approved by the Cabinet.
