Provision of relief to school children affected by the recent disaster situations and rebuilding of the damaged schools

- As a result of the floods and landslides that occurred during the month of May last, various damages have been caused to 472 schools constituting of 182 schools in the Southern Province, 177 schools in the Western Province and 112 schools in the Sabaragamuwa Province and 01 school in the Nuwara Eliya District. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education to relocate certain schools out of those damaged in other places and to rehabilitate the furniture, computers, library books, laboratories, sports material, aesthetic equipment etc., back to normal and to provide per child with 03 sets of school uniform and a pair of footwear, was approved by the Cabinet.
