Amendments to the Prescription (Special Provisions) Act, No.5 of 2016
- The period of validity for the implementation of the provisions contained in the Prescription (Special Provisions) Act, No.5 of 2016 passed in Parliament, with a view to enabling the persons who were deprived of their lands including immovable properties to pursue their rights in courts for the recovery of such properties, will end by the 25th day of April 2018.

Since, a considerable number of persons who were deprived of their properties or had to abandon them within the period from 01st of May 1983 up to the 18th of May 2009 covered by the provisions of this Act, have not been able to avail themselves of the benefit under this Act, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to amend the Prescription (Special Provisions) Act, No.5 of 2016 by extending the period of the validity of the Act by a further period of two years, was approved by the Cabinet.
