Establishment of a National Mechanism for minimizing the Green House Gas emission in Sri Lanka
- Sri Lanka, being a party to the 21st conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in the year 2015 in Paris, is bound to keep Green House emission at a minimum level. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President, Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to name the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment as the national focal point for the approval of the related projects and for the successful implementation of the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Activities (NAMA) on minimizing the Green House Gas emission, to establish the relevant coordinating unit at the Climate Change Secretariat of the said Ministry and to establish the implementing mechanism and the institutional framework needed for the successful implementation of the projects in Sri Lanka, approved by the above Coordinating Unit, was approved by the Cabinet.
