Transfer of Kotmale Mahaweli Maha Seya sacred site to the Mahaweli Cultural Foundation Trust

- The Mahaweli Cultural Foundation Trust has been established with a view to taking appropriate measures for the completion of the construction activities of the Kotmale Mahaweli Maha Seya which is underway, to carry out the future maintenance and renovation activities of the Maha Seya and for the stability of Buddhasasana while providing protection for Buddhism as well as the identity of Buddhist culture. H.E. the President made the Cabinet aware of the fact that having obtained the recommendation of the Department of Archaeology, measures will be taken to release the state land in extent of 40 Acres 03 Roods 31.6 Perches situated in the Kotmale Victoria Zone on a free grant to the Trust to achieve its objectives.
