Providing essential welfare and livelihood development for women and children affected by floods and landslides
- The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs have been allocated a sum of Rs.75 million by the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media for providing essential relief measures for women and children affected by floods and landslides. Even by now, various public institutions, non-governmental institutions as well as private sector institutions have intervened to fulfill the basic needs of the affected women and children. It has been planned to implement a project utilizing the said funds with the objective of re-orienting the livelihoods of families whose income sources have been broken and for the future welfare activities of the children of such families.

Accordingly, taking into consideration a proposal made by Hon. Mrs. Chandrani Bandara, the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, the Cabinet granted approval, to design a sustainable mechanism and a methodology for the continued financial assistance in respect of the welfare of the women and children affected by floods and landslide disasters.
