Conducting a study on the environmental effects, for the construction of an Aquaculture Industrial Park in the Mannar District

- A proposal has been made to establish an Aquaculture Industrial Park in a land area in extent of 1,491 Hectares situated alongside the Vedithalativ sanctuary, in the District of Mannar, with the objective of enhancing the contribution made to the National Economy by an increased fish production in the country. Taking into consideration, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development and the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management, the Cabinet decided to instruct the relevant officers to make an assessment in this respect, in the first instance, with regard to the suitability of the land identified for the proposed project and the environmental impacts of the project.
