Initiation of a Scientific Collaboration with the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Yunnan Sugarcane Research Institute of Yunnan Province of China with Sri Lanka

- The proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, to enter into Agreements for the development of sugarcane research and exchange of sugarcane genetic material with the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the Province of Yunan, situated in Kunmin of the People's Republic of China and the Sugarcane Research Institute of Sri Lanka with regard to the exchange of sugarcane germplasm and utility, evaluation of germplasm, exchange knowledge pertaining to sugarcane cultivation, exchange of information and expertise knowledge, training of young scientists, carrying out a study on subjects of mutual benefit and importance to the two countries and the settlement of common issues with a view to promoting collaboration between Sri Lanka and China, was approved by the Cabinet.
