Implementation of the National Adaptation Plan for the adverse Impacts of Climate Change
- Sri Lanka being an Island Nation located in the tropical region, it is highly vulnerable to adverse impacts of climate change. As such, with a view to developing the ability to withstand such changes, the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Climate Change Impacts - 2016 - 2025 was prepared in line with the guidelines set forth by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change with the provision of financial assistance, in collaboration with all the respective governmental and non‑governmental stakeholder participation. The plan covers the most adversely affected food security and the fields of water resources; coastal and ocean; health; human settlement and infrastructure facilities; eco-systems and bio diversity; tourism and recreation; export agriculture; industry; energy and transportation. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan within the period from 2016 to 2025 depending on sector based priorities and the Mid Term, priority programmes due to be implemented, was approved by the Cabinet.
