Disposal of Garbage in the areas of the Colombo Municipal Council and the adjoining Municipal Councils / Urban Councils

- The proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, for the disposal of garbage in places identified by the relevant Local Government Institutions in accordance with the environmental rules and regulations laid down, with the objective of finding solutions for the health and environmental issues which had cropped up owing to the disposal of garbage not being carried out systematically and properly by the Colombo Municipal Council and the adjoining Municipal Councils / Urban Councils, for obtaining court orders for preventing public objections when disposing of garbage, for issuing orders for the garbage to be disposed of only after proper segregation, for providing the necessary equipment for the Local Government Institutions for garbage management, for creating awareness among the public, for preventing the disposal of garbage in roads, for identifying alternative methods to minimize the disposal of polythene to the environment etc., was approved by the Cabinet.
