Appointment of a Ministerial Committee to Coordinate the Recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

- Sri Lanka was successful in her bid to get an additional period of two more years at the session of the UNHRC held in March 2017, in order to implement the commitments agreed upon by Sri Lanka at its session held in the year 2015. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to further obtain the necessary technical assistance and other support from the UNHRC as well as the other member countries and to appoint a Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister comprising of the other relevant Ministers and also to appoint an Officials' Committee to assist the said Committee, with a view to designing a methodology for the coordination of the initiatives of the various Ministries and Institutions working towards this end and the follow-up activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
