Performance of the Procurement Monitoring as at End of April 2017
- The Procurement Monitoring Unit was established in the year 2016 as a part of the operational unit of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management with the objective of ensuring the efficiency of the government procurement procedure. As at end of 30‑04‑2017 there had been 219 ongoing procurements while 32 procurements had been awarded. Out of the 219 procurements, 151 procurements were in relevance to 5 Ministries namely, Higher Education and Highways, City Planning and Water Supply, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Defence and Transport and Civil Aviation.

The above facts presented by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media were noted by the Cabinet and focused its attention also on the reasons for the delay of the procurement procedure and the proposals submitted in the Report in regard to enhancing its efficiency.
