Payment of a House Rent Allowance for the families who were deprived of their houses and who had to leave their dwelling houses as a result of floods and landslides that took place in May 2017

- As a result of floods, landslides and cyclone that occurred in the latter part of last May, a large number of people had to suffer where 3,037 houses had been completely damaged and 25,647 houses partially. As such, presently, facilities have been provided for in the welfare centres for families whose houses had been completely damaged and those whose houses had been damaged rendering them unsuitable for living and for those families who were removed from their dwelling houses due to the high risk of landslides. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management to make a payment of Rs.7,500/- per family, per month for the month of June, July and August to make enable those families to live in rented out houses temporarily, was approved by the Cabinet.
