Establishment of District Level Committees for Religious Reconciliation

- The need has arisen for a proper mechanism to be adopted island-wide for the establishment of national integration, reconciliation, co‑existence and sustainable peace. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President, Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation to appoint District Level Reconciliation Committees representing inter‑religious leaders, the Superintendent of Police of the area and any others in the area actively engaged in promoting national integration and reconciliation, convened by the District Secretary, to vest such Committees with authority to take appropriate measures to resolve the religious and ethnic tensions peacefully and to appoint a National Level Reconciliation Committee in addition to the District Level Committees, was approved by the Cabinet.
