Disposal of garbage in the Nuwara Eliya District

- The waste collected in the town of Nuwara Eliya and the suburbs is disposed in various places of the Nuwara Eliya District and the absence of a formal methodology for waste management has resulted in various health hazards while it has also affected the environmental beauty of the Nuwara Eliya area adversely.

In order to avert this situation, the need for the implementation of formal waste management programmes have been identified, and 02 Regional Plantation Companies have expressed their willingness to release the blocks of land required for the purpose. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Navin Disanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, to implement 02 Waste Management Programmes in such land, was approved by the Cabinet.
