National Policy and Strategic Framework on Accident Prevention and Management in Sri Lanka
- As a result of injuries that take place in Sri Lanka, more than 1 million people are hospitalized annually and a considerable amount of provisions set apart annually for the health sector, have to be spent on them. It has been identified that the major cause of injuries is 'road traffic accidents' and the findings show that the most who die of such accidents are persons between the age of 15 to 44. As such, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine to accept the National Policy and Strategic Framework on Accident Prevention and Management in Sri Lanka formulated in order to address the situation and to get the political and the institutional cooperation desired for the implementation of the National Policy and the Strategic Framework, was approved by the Cabinet.
