Development of pedestrian web in Fort and Pettah in Colombo (Construction of Stage III)
- It has been planned to construct a pedestrian web linking attractive areas to enable the pedestrians to walk safely, considering the excessive vehicle influx found in Fort and Pettah in Colombo. Stage I of this project extending from D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha to Olcott Mawatha has already been completed and the work pertaining to the Olcott Mawatha and Samudra Mawatha under Stage II is presently nearing completion. As Stage III, it is proposed to develop a pedestrian walk way of 06 meters wide (20 feet) and 1,485 meters long, along the Sebestian Canal from the Technical Junction to the Supreme Courts Complex. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to obtain the services of the Sri Lanka Navy to carry out the proposed construction work utilizing the provision set apart for the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, for Stage III of the Project, was approved by the Cabinet.
