Accident caused due to the collapsing of a Building at Wellawatta

- The attention of the Cabinet was focused on the accident caused by the collapsing of a building which was under construction at Wellawatta area and the Cabinet noted the need to take appropriate measures to ensure that the incidents of this nature would not occur in future.

The Cabinet noted further, the information provided in this regard by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, that the relevant approval from the authorities concerned has not been obtained in accordance with the norms and standards of building construction for the construction of that building, that formal investigation has been initiated against all officers responsible for allowing to construct the building illegally in such manner, that disciplinary action will be taken against the officers concerned based on the findings of the investigation and that instructions have already been given to the authorities concerned to ensure that no such incidents of this nature occur in future.
