Increase in the price of rice in the domestic market

- The attention of the Cabinet was focused on the steep rise in the price of rice in the domestic market and the matter was discussed at length. Accordingly, the Cabinet decided to grant approval to import rice through the private sector importers to enable the consumers to obtain rice at an affordable price without causing an adverse impact on the local paddy farmers. Cabinet further decided that the quantum of rice to be so imported should be determined by the Cabinet Sub‑Committee on Cost of Living.
