Completion of the work of several irrigation projects now being implemented expeditiously
- A sum of Rs.600 million has been set apart in the Budget of 2017 for the rehabilitation of the Left Bank of Minipe, Kitul reservoir and Rugam reservoir projects, Kumbukkan Oya reservoir project and the Mannar Tarapuram Tank projects. Out of these provisions, the General Treasury has already released a sum of Rs.300 million. Since, funds have already been allocated for the rehabilitation of the Left Bank of Minipe by the Mahaweli Road Security Investment Programme under the Asian Development Fund and the Kitul reservoir and the Rugam reservoir projects do not need further funds for this year, the proposal made by Hon. Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to utilize the balance provision of Rs.300 million, to complete the work of the Gonagala Tenna reservoir and the Gurugal Oya reservoir project now under progress, the pilot project for the establishment of the ground water monitoring network and the promotion of the infrastructure facilities of the Monaragala District under the Wellassa Navodaya project, was approved by the Cabinet.
