Thalpitigala Reservoir Project

- It is planned to divert Uma Oya in the upstream of the Bathmedilla Anicut situated in the Badulla District with the objective of supplying Irrigation Water to the Bathmedilla Scheme. It is also proposed to provide safe drinking water to Wasanagama, Madulla, Thatilla and Beramada in the Kandaketiya Divisional Secretariat Area and to generate 51GWh of Hydro power annually to feed the National Grid. The Cabinet has granted approval to implement this project at a cost of US$ 174 million. As the Export and Import Bank of China has expressed its willingness to to provide 85% of the estimated total cost, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into an Agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Export and Import Bank of China to obtain the loan facility, was approved by the Cabinet.
