Amending the Explosives Act, No.21 of 1956
- A Committee has been appointed with the representatives of the relevant stakeholders to make recommendations regarding the amendment to the Explosives Act, No.21 of 1956 to suit the current trends. The Committee has proposed a number of recommendations including the amendment of the provision to the issue of permits to the suppliers of explosives regarding the period of the validity of the permit for the explosives and the appointment of a 'Additional Controller of Explosives'. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President, Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity of the Minister of Defence, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft amendments to the Explosives Act, No.21 of 1956 including the said provision, was approved by the Cabinet.
