Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2017-04-25
Providing Relief to the people affected due to the disaster which occurred at the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump
- In accordance with the decisions taken at the meetings held in respect of this matter on 16th, 19th and 21st of April 2017, presided over by H.E. the President, with the participation of the relevant Ministers and the Officials, the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management, for the implementation of a programme to provide houses for the people who were deprived of their houses at Government expense, to pay Rs.50,000/- per month as a rental for a family evacuated from the risk prone areas subject to a maximum period of three (03) months, to grant a transport allowance for the families who go to reside in permanent houses, to provide dry ration and other assistance for the families who are presently housed in relief centres until they go to reside in permanent houses, to pay a sum subject to a maximum of Rs.250,000/- to purchase furniture for a house affected by disaster, to provide school uniforms, books and stationary for school going children of affected families and to publish a Gazette Notification declaring risk zones in the area, was approved by the Cabinet.
