Compost/Energy Production Project adjacent to the Gohagoda waste disposal yard in Kandy

- The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the implementation of a project for the production of compost fertilizer and generating electricity from solid waste adjacent to the Gohagoda waste disposal yard in Kandy. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, Minister of Agriculture, to pay compensation to the residents living in the nearby area and evacuate them in order to commence the activities of the project and to enter into an Agreement with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to purchase electricity generated under this project by the CEB through a specific method of payment, was approved by the Cabinet.
