Improvement of the Village Tank Cascade Systems (Ellangawa)

- Hydrologically inter connected Village Tank Echo-systems in a common water way is locally known as 'Ellangawa'. This irrigation system created by our ancestors has been accepted as the most viable solution to overcome the adverse effects of the climatic changes which we face presently. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, the Minister of Agriculture, to implement a project through the Department of Agrarian Services for the improvement of 21 Ellangawa systems spread over in 9 districts and the 258 rural tanks coming under them within the period of next 5 years, in collaboration with the relevant agricultural organizations, was approved by the Cabinet.
