Providing further relief measures for the persons affected due to Landslides in the Kegalle District
- The National Building Research Organization has recommended relocating persons living in 1,682 houses in high risk areas after the landslides in Kegalle which occurred in May 2016 due to heavy rains and the Cabinet approval was granted to provide funds for the resettlement of such families. During the research activities conducted subsequently, the number of houses located in high risk areas have increased up to 1,941. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management, to allocate additional funds through the General Treasury for providing lands and houses for the resettlement of 259 families, subsequently identified, in secure places, was approved by the Cabinet.
