Construction of a Specialized Paediatric Unit in the Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya
- The Teaching Hospital at Karapitiya in Galle, is the third largest tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka. There are 60 wards and 1,900 beds in the hospital out of which only 250 beds have been allocated for the child patients. To meet the requirements, it is necessary to develop the Paediatric Neuro‑Intensive Care Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Paediatric Surgical Unit of this hospital. As such, it has been decided to construct a building complex to establish a State of the Art Child Care Unit in the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with all necessary facilities and accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to award the contract for the construction of the building complex, to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau and the Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd. subject to the recommendations of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
