Relief Loan Scheme for the resettled People

- Pursuant to the decision of the Cabinet taken at its meeting held on 2010‑08‑11, the Rehabilitation of Persons, Properties and Industries Authority (REPPIA) has implemented a relief loan scheme through the Bank of Ceylon to provide relief to the families affected by terrorist activities to facilitate the resumption of a normal and productive life for them. Under this loan scheme a sum amounting to Rs.770.1 million has been granted to 5,222 beneficiaries by 2016‑12‑31 and out of which Rs.497 million have been recovered from them by the Bank of Ceylon. The said Bank has intimated that the money so recovered, could be utilized to provide loans to the relevant families under a revolving loan scheme and as such, the proposal made by Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, to take action accordingly, was approved by the Cabinet.
