Implementation of the Kandy Tunnel Construction Project

- It has been planned to construct a Tunnel of 4.36 km. in length from Thennekumbura area up to Suduhumpola and a four (04) lane road way 1.2 km. in length, in order to mitigate the heavy traffic congestion existing in the Kandy City at an estimated cost amounting to US$ 252.30. The Economic Development Cooperation Fund of Korea has agreed to provide necessary financing facility of US$ 199.27 for the project and accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways, to implement the Kandy Tunnel Construction Project and to vest the authority with the Department of External Resources to conduct negotiations on the terms and conditions of the loan, was approved by the Cabinet.
