Recovery of Damages on the Death of Minors

- It is proposed to introduce legislation to ensure that in the case of a death of a child due to the negligence or carelessness of a third party, damages should be recovered from the said third party for the mental pain caused to the parents and the future impacts. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksha, the Minister of Justice to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation giving effect to such provision, was approved by the Cabinet.
