Construction of a Cardio-Thoracic Treatment (Cardiac & Critical Care) Complex at the Lady Ridge Intensive Care Unit way Hospital for Children
- Lady Ridgeway Hospital is the only national referral centre for Pediatric patients in the country with extensive facilities for treatment of children with heart diseases and the Government has focused its attention to provide it with the necessary resources with a view to increasing its capacity for cardiac surgeries. The Cabinet has granted approval for the construction of a ten storeyed State of the Art Building Complex at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital with space for 4 Cardiac Theaters, 14 Cardiac Intensive Care Unit beds, 33 Medical Intensive Care Unit beds and over 50 beds for the new-born. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine to amend the cost of the project as Rs.2,439.7 million in accordance with revised estimate provided by the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, to cover the cost from the Consolidated Fund and the Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians under a special project named 'Little Hearts' and to complete the construction of the project within two (02) years, was approved by the Cabinet.
