Implementing recommendations of the Committee on granting measures of relief to media personnel who were subject to various harassments and oppressions during the period from 2005-2015

- On the directive of H. E. the President, the Secretary to the President has appointed a Special Committee, to inquire into the harassment and oppression of media personnel during the period from 2005 to 2015. Accordingly, by way of publishing newspaper notices the media personnel who had been so harassed and oppressed were given an opportunity by the Committee to submit their appeals. Taking into consideration the appeals so submitted, the Committee has presented a Report, including its recommendations on provision of relief measures to the relevant media personnel. Accordingly, the proposal made by Maithripala Sirisena, H. E. the President, to appoint a Cabinet Sub‑Committee comprising of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs; Justice; and Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, to study the Report further and report the outcome to the Cabinet, was approved by the Cabinet.
