Funding the NCD Alliance Lanka to combat the spread of non-communicable Diseases

- An alliance known as NCD Alliance Lanka has been formed comprising of the Sri Lanka Heart Association, the Sri Lanka Cancer Society, and the Ceylon National Association for the prevention of Chest Diseases, to combat Diabetes Mellitus, Ischeamic Heart Diseases, Cancers, Chronic Chest Diseases and use of Alcohol and Tobacco. This alliance is in Agreement with a five (05) year strategic plan for the prevention and control of the above non-communicable diseases. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine to provide NCD Alliance Lanka annually with Rs.5 million for five (05) years from the year 2017 from the provision set apart for the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine by the Government of Sri Lanka to carryout the activities identified in the strategic plan, was approved by the Cabinet.
