Paddy Purchasing Programme during the Maha Season - 2016 / 2017

- During the Maha season 2016/2017 a harvest of 1.32 MT of paddy is expected and out of which the Government has planned to purchase 73,500 MT of paddy covering 17 Districts. In this context, paddy is to be directly purchased from the farmers and it has been planned to get the assistance of the District Secretary / Government Agent, Divisional Secretary and the relevant Village Level Officers to implement the paddy purchasing programme. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. P. Harison, the Minister of Rural Economy, to purchase Kiri samba and other samba varieties for Rs.41/- per kg and the Nadu category of paddy for Rs.38/- per kg, cultivated during the seasons from the registered farmers, was approved by the Cabinet.
