Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Regions where rapid development activities occurred

- The Government of Japan has expressed its willingness to grant a loan of Japanese Yen 12,957 Million (approximately Rs.17,369 Million) through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency to implement this project through the improvement of Rural Roads, medium and small scale irrigation canals and the rural water supply facilities of the Northern, Eastern and Central and Uva Provinces to improve the living standards of the people living in those areas thereby developing the rural economy and minimizing the regional disparities. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into a loan Agreement with the JICA to obtain the loan, was approved by the Cabinet.
