Grama Rajya - Draft Concept Paper and Framework

- The attention of the Government has been focussed on the implementation of the concept of the Grama Rajya with the main objectives of forming an institutional framework that would allow the local community to actively and meaningfully contribute to the development of their resident area, of ensuring march towards a complete and sustainable society that gives the foremost place to social justice, and of creating a platform that enables the community and the state to discuss their concerns and priorities relating to the development of the locality and work with mutual understanding. The Grama Rajya - Draft Concept Paper and Framework has been prepared by a Committee comprising of the Senior Officials in the relevant field and the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Internal Administration and Public Management in Parliament has made its observations in that regard. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister to publish the Grama Rajya - Draft Concept Paper and the framework to seek the views of the public on the Draft Concept Paper and the Framework in the website of the Prime Minister's office, in order to seek the views of the public, was approved by the Cabinet.
