Calling for Expressions of Intention and Project proposals in respect of the Heda Oya Reservoir Project

- Under the proposed Heda Oya Reservoir Project, a reservoir with a capacity of 147 Million Cubic Metres across the Heda Oya and a diversion weir of 6.4 Km below the reservoir and a 16 Km long Right Bank Stream and a 13.5 Km long Left Bank Stream will be constructed. According to the feasibility study conducted, this project is expected to supply irrigation water to 5,308 Ha of old and new lands to be cultivated in the lower valleys of Heda Oya, Vila Oya and Karanda Oya and to supply a 5 Million Cubic Metres of water facilities to meet the annual needs of water for drinking and domestic purposes of the people of Pothuwil, Lahugala and Panama areas. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to call for expressions of intention and project proposals with a view to identifying a suitable company which could implement this project utilizing foreign funds, was approved by the Cabinet.
