Construction of a Synthetic Running Track for the Bernard Aluwihare Stadium at Matale

- The Bernard Aluwihare Stadium is presently, the largest Stadium in the Matale District, which is used for the Athletics who come from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kandy, Badulla and Kurunegala Districts as well. Last year, under the auspices of H.E. the President, the modernization activities of this stadium as a sports complex commenced and it is observed that a synthetic running track for this stadium is a timely need. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Minister of Sports, to construct a 400 metre Synthetic Running Track newly, for the Matale District Bernard Aluwihare Stadium and to obtain the consultancy services from the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
