Introduction of the concept of Statements of Corporate Intent (SCI) for the strategically important State Owned Business Enterprises (SOBEs)
- The Statements of Corporate Intent (SCI) could be used to contribute positively to enable the State Owned Business Enterprises (SOBEs) towards achieving the economic goals of the country. In achieving these objectives the strategy would be to encourage and facilitate these SOBEs to be self-sufficient without depending on the General Treasury through improved corporate practices, strong and prudent financial management, exposure to competitiveness and international best practices and effective human resource management while enhancing public accountability, Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance, for the implementation of the SCI in respect of the strategically important Ceylon Electricity Board, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka Airport and Aviation Company, and Sri Lanka Ports Authority to be signed by the tri-party including the Secretary, Ministry of Finance, the Secretaries in-charge of the line Ministries of the institutions that come under them and the Chairpersons of the respective institutions, was approved by the Cabinet.
